Why do people download Facebook Reels?

Reels disappear from your feed fast. You might see something funny, educational, or useful — a recipe, a tutorial, a clip you want to share later — and by the time you go back to find it, it's buried.

Downloading a Reel lets you keep it for offline viewing, share it through messaging apps, or use it for reference without needing an internet connection. GetFVid gives you a direct way to do that from any browser, without installing anything.

One thing to be clear about: this only works for public Reels. If a profile is private or the Reel is set to a restricted audience, the tool won't have access to it.

Which Reels can you actually download?

Not every Reel you see on Facebook is downloadable through this tool. Here's the simple rule: if the Reel is public, it works. If it's private, it doesn't.

Reels that typically work:

  • Reels posted on public Pages (brands, creators, news pages)
  • Reels from profiles where the account is set to public
  • Reels shared via a direct link that opens without requiring a login

Reels that won't work:

  • Reels from private accounts (Friends only, Only me)
  • Reels inside closed or private groups
  • Reels that have been deleted or taken down

A quick test: try opening the Reel link in a browser while logged out of Facebook. If you can see the video, GetFVid can likely download it.

File format and quality

Facebook Reels are stored as MP4 files. When you download through GetFVid, you get the same MP4 file that Facebook serves — we don't convert, compress, or re-encode anything.

The resolution you get depends on what Facebook has available for that specific Reel. Most Reels filmed on modern phones are available in HD (720p or higher). Some may only offer a lower resolution if that's what was originally uploaded.

Reels are vertical videos by default (9:16 ratio). When you open the downloaded file, your media player may display it in portrait mode. This is normal — the aspect ratio is part of the original format.

How to save a downloaded Reel to your camera roll

After downloading, the Reel is saved as an MP4 to your device — but the exact location depends on your phone.

On iPhone: When Safari asks what to do with the file, tap Download Linked File. You'll find it in the Safari downloads list (arrow icon in the toolbar) and in the Files app. To move it to your Photos app, open the file in Files, tap the share icon, and choose Save Video.

On Android: The file saves automatically to your Downloads folder via Chrome. Open your Files or Gallery app, find the video in Downloads, and move or share it from there.

If tapping Download opens the video in the browser instead of saving it, tap and hold the video player and select Save video or Download video from the menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download Reels from a private Facebook account?

No. GetFVid can only retrieve Reels that are publicly accessible without a Facebook login. Private accounts and restricted posts are not accessible through this tool.

The Reel plays fine on Facebook but won't download — why?

A few things could cause this: the link might have been copied from a notification or DM rather than the Reel itself, or the account may recently have switched to private. Try copying the link directly from the Reel's share menu and paste it fresh.

Will the downloaded Reel include audio?

Yes — as long as the original Reel had audio. If the creator uploaded a silent Reel or the audio was removed by Facebook, the downloaded file will also be silent.

Can I download Reels on iPhone without a computer?

Yes. Open GetFVid in Safari, paste the Reel link, tap Download, and save the file. You'll find it in your Files app. From there you can save it to your camera roll using the share option.

Is there a limit to how many Reels I can download?

No. GetFVid doesn't cap the number of downloads. You can use it as many times as you need, for free.

GetFVid is not affiliated with Meta or Facebook. This tool only works with publicly accessible content. Always respect the rights of the original creator before downloading or reposting their content.
